'Bucks New Uni'....oh dear.

Right, well the first thing I'd like to comment on is the new look of the name and logo for our uni.

Why did no-one think to consult us?! Surely as budding brilliant graphic designers and advertisers we should have been asked for ideas.
I'm pretty sure that if they had we would not be where we are now with a name that suggests we are pretentious twats and a logo that looks like a flying arsehole.
Now the only question to be asked is can it be changed? Anyone know?

well during the comittee meeting i went to a few weeks ago, this was brought up and unfortunately for us- it's not going to change!
we don't have a say in it!
I know the logo and the actual name is awful- i heard someone commenht that 'New York is still called NEW York, and that's not new, so why the fuss over Bucks NEW uni!' lol how stupid can you get!
so unfortunately the answer to ur question is no it wont change!
Also it was brought up in the meeting that teh name of teh degraa will change if we choose the advertyising pathway. So on our degree it will be 'Advertising Creative' and not just 'Advertising', as tehre was some confusion with the Business school.

Whilst i'm writing on here- if there is ne issues regarding 1st year Graphic Design and Advertising please contact me, as i can bring it up at the next meeting. Either leave a blog on ere or email me (vintagedesigner@hotmail.co.uk)
cheers! Danielle Russell

I wouldn't mind the ridiculous new name so much if they actually bothered to put an apostrophe in the title.

If it's Bucks' new Uni, i.e. the University for Bucks, it needs an apostrophe. If "Bucks" is just a catchy new slang title, surely it should be '"Bucks" - The New Uni' or something similarly epic.

Not to mention how ridiculous using "new" in the title of a University is. It's not new, and the name isn't going to remain new for very long. In a year's time, it will just look like a sad attempt to look "hip".

Call me a cynic, but it would be nice if an institution of education demonstrated a basic understanding of grammar and punctuation.

I heard the Student Union had a petition to stop/change the new name going, but haven't heard anything on it since Freshers' Fayre.

I don't want this name on my degree!
The good thing is I can Photoshop a whole new one saying a DECENT name if I like.
Everyone I've talked to hates the name so who the hell was the person who thinks it's good? Why are people in suits always completely stupid somehow?

I realise there is a problem in the fact that there is a Buckinghamshire University already in existance. But surely we could've had a civilised name like Buckinghamshire Chilterns University?

I come from Bath where a similar thing went on recently. A place called Bath Spa University College
was upgrading to uni status but we already have a Bath University. So now the new one is called Bath Spa University. No problem.

Bucks New Uni is a joke.

right... ok ill be honest dont like the name, but also if anyone had bothered to read up about it, its a cover name till the name issue and the redevelopment has finished, then the uni will be relaunched under its new name (what ever it may be) so the name will only be around for 2 years or so. So yes it is a bit of a shit name, but tbh its a bit diffrent, they took a chance and tried to cause a bit of media hype about having quite a diffrent name, whether or not that worked im not gonna comment on. Yes the logo is pants and should be rethought but its better than alot out there. Also the type on the logo isnt quite right which was pointed out by Jerry, but uni aint gonna do anything about it.

tbh the uni aint gonna do shit about it, espesh give it over to students. Your just gonna put up with it im afraid, no matter how much we moan, still gonna be there. im sure if it is on our degrees we can ask for a reissue if ur bothered. But your at uni to be good at what you do, doesnt matter where u do your degree, plenty of ppl come out of oxbridge and cant get a job for love nor money.

I still cannot fully make my mind up about the name. Bucks sounds too much like a buzz word that is being used to make it cool, hip and screams "trying too hard" in general. I think people have already said it all about the "new", and the same applies to "Uni" about it being a buzz word.

BCUC actually sounded a bit posh, and whenever people would ask me "Where are you going to Uni?" they would always go "Oooh get you" when I told them. Although they would never quite know where it was. Bless.

Although the logo does actually look a bit more logo-y than perhaps the previous one did, it looks so generic and meaningless it is no wonder people don't like it or associate with it.

Sure things evolve with the times, but this feels almost like a step backwards from people who are trying to think too far ahead of themselves.

The way the world is going lately, we will probably have to embrace this kind of thinking, as it seems set for the long term.

The bottom line overall is "How unfortunate", I guess.

Someone previously commented that it's not relevant to our course and that we should concentrate on being good.

Quite an obvious thing to state really isn't it.. and to be honest I'm not sat up in bed at night crying "why? why would they call it "Bucks New Uni with THAT logo!?".

But seeing as theres a blog about it I'll join in.

I think it's ridiculous that a uni FULL of design and marketing students didnt actually ask them to have a go at designing or copywriting something, or ask for their opinion on the considered logo at the time. I mean, one it's free! and two - aren't these students the Uni's target audience... and part of the most obvious and basic research to undertake?

"Hip" is not cool word, but I'm assuming this was the key word the concept was centered around for the relaunch.

It's not relevant to our work or how successful we could be; but seeing as many of us have travelled hundreds.. even thousands of miles to study here, it might be a nice thing to be proud of the university we attend. Instead we have a middle age crisis reflected in the "New" name, and a logo shat out of the eighties.

It's a poor do in't it!

Wow! Can't believe I accidently stumbled across this site.

As a student of graphic design in Bristol. I face an issue far more confusing, far more outrageous than any of you mwah ha ha.

We are having an identity crisis.
Bristol school of art med and design / UWE. And NOW we are becoming faculty of arts. As a student finding ones feet in a new city, coming from a rural retreat in Devon. Its tough. Who am I? more to the point What freakin university am I at?

How bad is it gonna get, soon students of art in Bristol will not even know what subject they study. Already as a second year student I am finding it difficult targeting an area of specialism. The future is bleak.
One wonders..

The bum hole is psychadelic. and 'bucks' cant even breathe. Although 'bucks' is how your uni is known and if you guys have as good a rep as you say you do then stick with it.
